A Letter from the President

As I struggle  daily with Mental illness, and being told by love ones “Get Over It!”  I have found the passion and strength to fight back.  After enduring abused as a Veteran at the VA Hospital and watching other Veterans being abused by the system, I realized it was time to take a stand and break my silence.

I knew God had a purpose for my life, and after days of fasting, many tears, meditation and prayers,  I began my journey.  This  journey of eradicating the stigma of mental health and getting down to the root cause of homelessness in Veterans.  Breaking the cycle is important to end homelessness in Houston, and it begins with addressing mental Health.

The Stigma with Mental Health in the Veteran Community is real and has contributed to the increase in homelessness, increase in suicide rate, divorce rate, etc.,

My vision for Our Vets began while being hospitalized and treated for my own mental health service-connected disabilities.  A nonprofit Organization was created as a result of first-hand mistreatment of Veterans by the VA Hospital employees.  Our mission is to advocate, educate and to eradicate the stigma surrounding mental health and break the cycle to end homelessness of Veterans in Houston.

We are Veterans, we have the strength to push through anything as we stand together as one!

So Join me on this journey to break the stigma and end homelessness.
